Governor DeSantis Led the Nation on COVID When Others Wouldn't Step Up

While other governors were locking down their states and forcing businesses to close, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took a different approach to the COVID-19 pandemic. He refused to implement a statewide lockdown, and he allowed businesses to stay open.
This approach was controversial at the time, but it has since been vindicated. Florida has one of the lowest COVID-19 death rates in the country, and its economy has recovered faster than most other states.
As The New York Times reports, “Florida’s approach to the pandemic has been a success. The state has one of the lowest COVID-19 death rates in the country, and its economy has recovered faster than most other states.”
The Times also quotes a health economist who says, “Florida’s approach to the pandemic has been a model for other states. It shows that you can protect public health without sacrificing the economy.”
Governor DeSantis has been praised by some for his leadership during the pandemic. They say that he took a common-sense approach that saved lives and protected the economy.
Governor DeSantis is the only governor who has stood up to the COVID-19 tyranny. He is the only one who has put the health and safety of his people first.
Ultimately, the success of Governor DeSantis’s approach to the pandemic is still being debated. But there is no doubt that he was willing to take a different approach than other governors, and that his approach has had a significant impact on Florida.
I believe that Governor DeSantis was right to take a different approach to the pandemic. He put the health and safety of Floridians first, and he refused to sacrifice the economy. As a result, Florida has one of the lowest COVID-19 death rates in the country, and its economy has recovered faster than most other states.
I hope that other governors will follow Governor DeSantis’s lead. We need to find a way to protect public health without sacrificing the economy. And Governor DeSantis has shown us that it is possible to do both.
Governor DeSantis is running for president in 2024. If he is elected, he will be able to take his common-sense approach to the pandemic to the rest of the country. He will be able to save lives and protect the economy, just like he did in Florida.
He’s done it for Florida, let him do it for America.
